Great support from senior management and are rewarded for hard work and dedication.

In 2001 I applied for a position as Branch Assistant at NZ Safety Tauranga. I had working as a Customer Services Representative for a Pharmaceutical Distributor. My boyfriend (now husband) and some of my family were living in Tauranga so I was keen to move back home to be closer to them.

Learning about safety products was a bit daunting as I had been in Pharmaceuticals most of my working life but our Product Managers and Suppliers were all very helpful and supportive.

In 2005 our Branch Manager/Account Manager moved on and I applied for the role. As I had not had previous experience in account management or leadership I was very surprised to be given the opportunity.

After a few large learning curves, and with the help and support from my peers and team mates, we enjoyed a couple of really successful years.

Looking for a new challenge, I applied for my current role as Auckland Sales Manager. My new role keeps me very busy, but it is very rewarding to see my teammates achieving their goals and budgets. Even though I have been in Auckland for almost two years it still feels very new and there is a lot more we can achieve. I can't imagine changing roles or work places in the near future.

We get great support from senior management and are rewarded for hard work and dedication, regardless of gender or age.

I appreciate that I am working for a successful business that has given me lots of opportunity to develop and advance.

The division presented excellent opportunities for growth and progression

Prior to joining WIS, I held senior sales roles overseeing multiple states within the telecommunications and home improvement industries. During that time, I successfully worked alongside senior leaders to improve sales strategies within those respective businesses. I also successfully established and mentored senior sales professionals across states and territories.
With the appeal of being a part of a greater network within an influential organisation such as Wesfarmers, I decided to join WIS. The division presented excellent opportunities for growth and progression due to the sheer breadth of the organisation. With a legacy heritage and capability to touch various business markets, WIS proved a well-established and well-connected, industry leading company.
Beginning my career with WIS I lead a diverse team of sales managers responsible for the sales growth of medium-large enterprise sized sales accounts. As the State Sales Manager QLD, directly reporting to the Group General Manager of Sales, the role has enabled me to implement and further develop my leadership and management capability.
WIS is an employer which creates equal opportunity for both men and women. Working within a traditionally male dominated industry which is selling industrial products to heavy industry and mining customers, I believe my role within the business is a testimony to WIS’ female friendly culture. My role enables me to lead and develop our business, and I believe WIS provides these same opportunities for all women within our business. As with every business across all industries, we can each do more to promote and encourage the role of women in the workplace, and I believe WIS to be taking strategic, positive steps towards bridging the gap around gender equality.
